What are you willing to sacrifice for your dream?

I watched this powerful testimony by Frank Edwards yesterday and I was just in awe of God. There are many Gospel singers who would like to be as successful as he is but they have no idea what it took for him to get there.

That’s why I love when successful people share their stories – the full story; the pains, the struggles…everything. It gives a more realistic picture of how the journey to success is really like.

Aside from being inspired by how God moved in Frank Edwards’ life, something caught my attention. He said he was approached with a big opportunity and all he had to do was to use the name ‘God’ instead of ‘Jesus’ in his songs because more people will accept his songs when he uses God. According to them, people find the name ‘Jesus’ offensive.

I thought about it for a while. We know that God is three is in one; the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. Although they have distinct personalities, they are essentially one. Interchanging ‘God’ with ‘Jesus’ shouldn’t be a problem because the reference to God is being made. So that request wasn’t really a big deal.

You know what God said to me? He said, “Once you open the floodgates of compromise, you will compromise anything.” Had Frank Edwards jumped at that opportunity, he would have been required to compromise on other things down the line which would have limited the great thing God wanted to do in his life.

When God gives you a vision, you must be careful to walk with Him every step of the way. Obedience is key. You need to be aware that the devil will bring options your way; very tempting options but you must be confident about what God has said to you.

The more The Sparkle Writer’s Hub grows, the more I get phone calls and emails about different opportunities and platforms to be explored. There are people who feel I need to be doing things on a much bigger scale while some want to offer more publicity.

Before I say yes to anyone, I consult the vision God has given to me. I’m following His plan and not mine. I’ll admit, some of these offers are tempting especially the ones that come with great financial returns but I can’t throw away my destiny because of some momentary financial relief. It’s not worth it.

So my question to you is, what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your dreams? Are you willing to compromise your faith and beliefs? Are you willing to take a shortcut just for immediate gratification?

You should always follow one way – God’s way. Choose to walk with God and walk with Him completely. Don’t try to run ahead of Him. You will be successful but it must be on His terms. I’m doing a Bible study on the Old Testament and I discovered that Moses spent 40 years in the ‘wilderness’ when he ran away from Egypt after killing an Egyptian and he went on to spend another 40 years in the wilderness leading the children of Israel out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Those early 40 years were definitely to prepare him for a greater purpose which he was not aware of at the time.

There is a reason for everything that happens to you. Every. Single. Thing. There is a greater purpose for it. So do not be discouraged. God is setting you up for something really big. I mean, just listen to Frank Edwards’ testimony. Look at what God did with his life when he chose to follow and obey Him.

Do the same thing. Don’t compromise your faith. You will make it!
