Let the countdown to the New Year begin

I think we can officially begin to countdown to the New Year. It is six days to the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015. It’s exciting and scary for me at the same time. I still ask myself when 2014 started. This time last year I was just waiting for NYSC to be over. Now, it’s been over for six months and life has moved on.

I’m not the only one that feels this way. A lot of people that I have spoken to feel that 2014 went by too quickly. Do you know what that makes me realise; time is waiting for nobody. I know we’ve all heard this before but how many of us really understand what that means – time waits for no one. A lot of us live life like we have all the time in the world. I’m guilty of this myself. I was reminiscing about my uni days yesterday and it’s been four years since I graduated. Unbelievable. I remember when I was in secondary school and I was looking forward to being in university like all those cool kids. Now I’m way past that. My younger brother will be a graduate in less than two years. Time does fly.

What does this mean for us as we are about to end 2014? I feel it’s a wake up call for us to cease the moment in 2015. You have to hit the ground running right from January 1st. Yes I know you want to celebrate the New Year and all but time waits for no man remember? Let 2015 be your year of action. Aren’t you tired of just talking and not complementing your words with action? You’ve been talking about writing that professional exam for years now…don’t you think it’s time to actually write it. Yes I know other factors can hinder you from writing the exam for example, money. But do you know what I have realised, if you are determined and you persevere, money will come. Somehow, a door will just open for you. You need to start preparing to take that exam or take that next step in your life. I like to think about it this way. Let’s say you want to start a new business and money is holding you back. You say to yourself, “I’ll wait until I have money before I do my business plan and other things concerning my business”. That’s actually not a bad idea until a potential investor comes your way and you have nothing to show as proof that your business idea is worth investing in. In fact, my guess is that the investor will think you are unserious.

This is how a lot of us let certain opportunities pass us by. Please don’t let this happen in 2015. I’ve been talking about wanting to write a book for a while and one day God said to me, what happens if a publisher comes your way right now? Is that when you will start writing this book? That really was the wake-up call I needed so guess what? 2015 is the year that t will actually complete that book. No more talking about it. It’s time to get to work. I don’t know if that book will be published, What I know is that I would have taken a step towards being a published author.

So what’s that one goal that has lingered on your list of goals for years…starting a business, relocating to a new city, changing career paths, getting a new qualification? Stop talking and start doing. End of discussion.
