Can you believe it’s Friday already? I don’t know about you but this week went by rather quickly for me. I’m not complaining though; I love the weekend.
One thing I really loved about this week was the support I received. As I wrote in my post on Monday, my client launched their education portal, 1Plify.com and I’m managing the content for the site. I’ve received a lot of encouraging feedback regarding the content I’ve put up there. What a great feeling!
God cast my mind back to when I first started on this path to make a living out of writing. I took that bold step as a result of the encouragement of a colleague. Back then I didn’t understand why she was doing it but her words motivated me. Her words cleared my doubt. I believed I could do it despite the fact that writers in Nigeria don’t earn much. Along the way, I’ve had a series of people who have supported and encouraged me. There have been people who have tried to discourage me. I’ve heard many derogatory comments about what I do. Some have even suggested that I should let it remain a hobby and do something more meaningful with my life. But I chose to stick with it and today, I’m happy I didn’t listen to those negative comments.
So I want to ask you today, who are you listening to? Who you listen to will determine whether you will fulfill your dreams or not. We know getting to the top is hard but you don’t need people around you that keep reminding you of why you cannot get to the top. Yes you need people to bring you back to reality when you are going overboard with your dreams but you should know when to draw the line. Shut out negativity. Personally I don’t like negative people. I don’t want them to contaminate my space because negativity has a way of infecting you. It slowly creeps into your life and hinders progress. You don’t need it.
Listen to the voice of people who will tell you the truth but will do so in love. For example, let’s say your dream is to be the next Whitney Houston and your voice is not so good, a person who supports you will gently tell you this fact. They may even suggest going for voice training or point you towards areas of your strength that you may have taken for granted. Negative people on the other hand will tell you that you have a horrible voice point blank and make you feel like you have no talent or gift at all. You see the difference? Find people who see the light in you. Interact with people that want to see you excel. Some people don’t believe everyone can get to the top. They’ll try to pull you down so that they can get to the top. Be alert to the tactics of such people and don’t fall into their trap.
You are unique and you have been given beautiful gifts by your creator. Some of you may have discovered your gifts while some may still be searching for theirs. Whichever category you belong to, you need to listen to the right voice. And can I add that the best voice to listen to is God’s voice? He wants you to succeed and everything He does is to make sure that you fulfill your purpose in this world.
Think about it and start listening to the right people.
